The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for much of Minnesota on Tuesday, with the heaviest snow in the central region. As a result, dozens of school districts across Minnesota canceled classes, so many children were our playing in the snow.
Don’t Let Kids Tunnel In Snow Banks!
With the extremely high amounts of snow we have received, snow removal operations on City streets and cul-de-sacs have generated some very large piles and banks of snow. The City will be pushing back these banks with large equipment in an effort to provide storage area for future snowfalls.
For their safety, children should be reminded to NOT play on these banks or make tunnels in them.

Winter Isn’t Over!
The late winter storm bearing down on most of Minnesota reminds us that, despite our recent mild temperatures and lack of snow, winter isn’t over. Don’t get complacent. Dangerous winter hazards are still with us.
A Snow Plow – Cool! is a 2001 informational video produced by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Minnesota Local Road Research Board, and the Ramsey County Public Works Department targeted at 2nd-4th grade children. It details the potential dangers of snowplows and how to avoid them. It also warns about other hazards associated with outdoor winter activities in Minnesota.
The video is shown to lower school students in Minnesota, and plays on local cable stations in the state.
This video provides 2nd and 4th grade children with an understanding of the dangers of building snow forts next to the streets, building forts or tunnels with roofs, sliding into the streets and other safety issues around snowplows. It was produced by the Minnesota Local Road Research Board (LRRB).
